The Sumner Main Street Association (SMSA) is a non-profit organization with the mission of revitalizing Sumner’s historic downtown district. SMSA is a Washington Main Street Affiliate Member and uses the National Main Street Program’s Four-Point Approach to guide its historic downtown revitalization. The Main Street Four-Point Approach is a comprehensive community-based approach to community revitalization using each of the following four points: Design, Economic Vitality, Promotion, and Outreach. These four points guide our organizational structure and annual work plans.
Design Committee:
The Design Committee works to improve the streetscape and environmental experience for its businesses and visitors.
Economic Vitality:
The Economic Vitality Committee provides resources and support in business recruitment and retention in the downtown district.
Promotion:
The Promotion Committee tells the story of downtown Sumner through promotional efforts. It communicates with the community on the benefits of revitalization and produces events that bring visitors to our historic downtown
Outreach / Organization:
The Outreach Committee ensures the success of the SMSA through volunteer recruitment and recognition, expansion of sponsorships and partnerships, fundraising and ensuring the financial responsibility of the organization.

LIGHT UP MAIN
The Design Committee is working to install clear LED lights along the top of 38 downtown buildings. The lights will be on from dusk to dawn throughout the year and provide a welcoming ambiance for visitors. Funding is provided by City of Sumner LTAC funds.
OPEN IN SUMNER
The SMSA is working with the City’s Open in Sumner Coalition to provide resources for businesses. The City, SMSA and others collaborated to create an Open In Sumner campaign, see the video here:
We want to thank the City of Sumner for constructing parklets for downtown restaurant use. The parklets were recently featured on Q13 News.

STARTING A BUSINESS
The SMSA is updating its resources for starting or relocating a business to the downtown district. This includes recently requested information for converting retail spaces to restaurants/food service. We work with the City to provide a clear path from permitting to opening your business downtown.
