Façade Enhancement Grant Program for Downtown Businesses

Sumner Main Street Association has announced two grant programs to provide matching funds for the beautification of downtown Sumner. The grant program aims to leverage Sumner Main Street’s investment in the beautification efforts downtown, stimulate private investment, and enhance the pedestrian environment.

This program will be offered to downtown business and property owners who desire to make small-scale or larger project improvements to the façade of their buildings. Eligible expenses may include, but are not limited to, landscaping (soil, flower pots, etc.), signage, sandwich boards, art, exterior lighting, painting, exterior cleaning, awning cleaning and/or replacement and window storefront display improvements that are visible to customers.

The grants are intended to help downtown businesses and property owners improve the exterior look of their buildings. The grants provide a 50 percent match, up to $250 and $2,500 per business or property, for approved improvement costs. Applications will be accepted for as long as funding is available through December 31, 2021. Grant awards will be first-come, first- served, and based on available funding. Applications are now being accepted and will be reviewed and awarded by the Design committee of Sumner Main Street.

The goal of the program is to enhance the physical image of downtown as a quality place to shop, work, walk, invest in, and live.
